Sofa Stain Removal in Dubai: The Complete Guide
Al Haya Sofa Care UAE · Updated 17 October 2026 · 8 min read
The faster you act on a sofa stain, the better your chances of removing it completely. The right method depends on two things: what the stain is, and what the sofa is made of.
This guide brings together all of our stain articles — common household stains, henna and perfume, alcohol-based cleaners, and office upholstery — into one practical reference, plus clear advice on when DIY becomes risky.
The golden rules
✓ Blot, don’t rub — work from the outside of the stain inward
✓ Test any cleaner on a hidden area first
✓ Use as little liquid as possible; over-wetting spreads stains and leaves rings
✓ Never use hot water or heat on wine, blood, dairy or other protein stains
✓ Check the care code (W, S, S-W, X) before using water or solvents
Coffee, tea and juice
✓ Blot up as much liquid as possible immediately
✓ Dab with cool water and a little mild dish soap
✓ Blot again with clean water and let it air-dry — no hairdryer
Red wine
✓ Blot immediately; do not rub
✓ Dab with cold water or soda water to lift the colour
✓ Avoid hot water; dried wine usually needs professional treatment
Pet accidents
✓ Blot, then apply an enzyme-based pet cleaner — not ammonia
✓ Enzymes break down odor at the source so pets don’t re-mark
✓ Set-in urine in the padding normally needs professional extraction
Henna and perfume
Henna is part of many celebrations in the UAE, and its pigment binds to fabric fast — especially cotton, linen and untreated leather. Scrape off any paste, blot, then dab with a little diluted mild soap and lukewarm water after a patch test. Avoid bleach, which can turn the mark yellow. Dried henna is one of the harder stains to remove, so call a professional sooner rather than later.
Perfume and oud oils leave oily rings. Blot the spill, sprinkle a little baking soda or talc to absorb the oil, wait 10–15 minutes and vacuum it away. Any remaining mark usually needs a solvent-based spot clean.
Ink, make-up and grease
Oil-based stains do not respond to water. On fabrics that allow solvents, a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a white cloth, dabbed — never poured — can lift ballpoint ink. Do not use alcohol on leather, velvet, silk or acetate, where it can strip colour or finish. Ventilate the room and keep alcohol-based cleaners away from heat and flames.
Office and commercial upholstery
Reception sofas, meeting-room chairs and staff lounges collect coffee, food and ink marks quickly, and body oils darken armrests. Regular spot cleaning plus a scheduled deep clean keeps them presentable. We can clean office seating after hours so work is not disrupted.
When to call a professional
Call a professional if a stain has dried, covers a large area, has already been treated unsuccessfully, or is on leather, velvet, silk or other delicate fabric. Repeated DIY attempts can spread the stain, set it or cause discoloration. Professional pre-treatment and extraction lift many set-in stains that home methods cannot — though some permanent dye changes cannot be reversed, and an honest technician will tell you so up front.

Is my fabric colour-safe during cleaning?
We test every product on a hidden area first and choose methods matched to the fabric and care code to avoid colour bleeding.
Can henna stains be removed from a sofa?
Fresh henna often comes out with prompt, gentle treatment. Dried henna is harder; professional treatment improves most stains, but complete removal is not always possible.
Is it safe to use rubbing alcohol on my sofa?
Only on fabrics that allow solvents, in small amounts, after a patch test and with good ventilation. Never use it on leather, velvet or silk.
What if the stain reappears after cleaning?
Deep stains can sometimes wick back to the surface as the fabric dries. Let us know and we will re-treat the area.
Do you remove stains from office furniture?
Yes. We clean and remove stains from office sofas, chairs and reception seating across Dubai, including after-hours visits.
Are your stain treatments safe for kids and pets?
Yes — we use eco-friendly, non-toxic, pH-balanced products that are safe for children and pets once dry.
How quickly can you come for an urgent stain?
Same-day visits are usually available across Dubai. Message us on WhatsApp with a photo of the stain for advice and a free quote.
